As soon as you have carefully crafted your CV and got your name on the register with some good employment agencies, with a bit of luck, you will be offered interviews for jobs which are interesting to you. The agency will send you details on the job that is available and will also give you some advice on how to prepare for the interview.

Here are some hints and tips for success in the interview:-

1. Have ready some probiing questions to ask them in return. If these carefullly prepared questions have already been covered during the interview then tell them that and thank the employer for the interview. If you cannot think of any questions to ask, hold a 'brainstorming' session with a few friends.

2. Look interested in what the interviewer is saying and remember everything you can.

3. Don't be afraid to sell yourself, but focus on the benefits that the employer will get from employing you, avoid merely listing your qualifications. What is in it for them?

4. Try to think of the questions they will ask and prepare answers in advance. E.g., What interests you about this job? What can you offer to the company? Prepare some examples of situations where your skills and abilities have added value to your employer. Employment agencies will often help you with advice on specific questions that are likely to be asked.

5. Sit still and don't slouch.

6. If you don't understand a question don't be afraid to ask for further explanation. whatever you do, don't try to bluff your way through..

7. Ensure that you know where your interview is to be held, how you will get there and how long it will take to get there. Your recruitment agency will often send you a route map. Plan your journey - being late is a really bad way to start an interview.

8. Smile - it may seem a small thing, but it makes a big difference!

9. Read up about the business offering employment and about the position on offer. This will help you to anticipate their questions and to have some pre-prepared questions of your own should they ask. Make sure that you understand the recruitment agency has given you.

10. Be assured but not presumptuous.

11. Speak clearly and with confidence. Don't mumble and don't hurry your answers.

12. Don't read from prepared notes during the interview or answer questions 'parrot fashion', try to answer in a natural style.

13. Don't mislead them on your employment history or skills in the interview or to your employment agency, for that matter. You do not want a job that requires more than you can give.

14. Stay calm and relaxed.

15. Don't talk badly of companies you used to work for or co-workers, it is unprofessional.

16. Dress smartly and ensure that you are 'well turned out'. Employment agencies will often advise you if there are dress restrictions.

17. Avoid using slang when addressing the interviewer.

If you read, understood and act on the above hints and tips, you will have a considerably greater probabilty of achieving that perfect post and building a outstanding and fun career.

Always remember that recruitment agencies can offer help with an awful lot more than merely finding a vacancy. Recruitment agencies will often help you write a professional CV, assist you with applications and help you improve your technique in interviews. Don't be afraid to ask them for help whenever you have questions.
