A Few Select Examples Of Technology That Can Make Your Home Entertainment System Better

If you want to take your home entertainment system to the next level, then you'll want to take a look at some of the latest home entertainment technologies. Some of these devices you may be familiar with and others may be completely new to you, but either way you'll want to consider incorporating them into your entertainment system.

The most basic upgrade that you can make to your home entertainment system is replacing your old cathode ray tube TV with an HDTV set. HDTV sets are designed to display programming in High Definition Television- a format that was designed with the specific intent of providing an economical way for TV viewers to enjoy the full motion picture experience as movie producers and directors intended, while in the comfort of their own living rooms. HDTV sets provide a wide screen view with the same aspect ratio that most movies are filmed in. They can also display much higher resolution pictures than an old fashioned standard definition TV can.

There are a number of pitfalls that you'll want to look out for if you do buy an HDTV. For example, there are a lot of different display technologies to choose from- the big ones are LCD screens, DLP projection, and plasma screens- and some are better suited to various needs than others. What type of display you get will be determined by a combination of the lighting levels in the room where you'll be using it, space considerations, and your budget. The decision should not be determined by trends or fads.

Once you have an HDTV, you'll want to figure out how to take advantage of its wider aspect ratio and greater resolution capabilities. One way to take advantage of the aspect ratio is by watching DVD's in wide screen mode, but contrary to popular misconception, DVD's do not produce high def pictures. In order to take full advantage of the resolution that your HDTV set is capable of displaying, you'll need HDTV programming. You can get this from most TV service providers or with special DVD players. There are two types of DVD players that can help you take advantage of your HDTV set- upconverting DVD players and high def DVD players.

Upconverting DVD players boost the resolution of normal DVD's in before displaying their contents on the screen. High def DVD players play special high definition DVD's that actually display video in authentic high definition. High Def DVD players are obviously the preferred option of the two, but considering that there are currently two high def DVD formats that are trying to drive each other into obsolescence, an upconverting model is probably a safer investment.

If you want a DVR for your home entertainment system, then you might want to consider taking the DVR experience to the next level by getting a media center computer. A media center computer is capable of performing all of the functions of a DVR, plus a lot more. The Monolith MC is a good example of a media center computer that can add a lot of functionality to your home entertainment system. It can record programming in both standard definition and high definition. It can also burn video that's stored on its hard drive onto standard DVD's so that you can free up space on the device's hard drive without giving up your favorite recordings. The Monolith MC also serves as a DVD player. In addition, it has all of the features of a normal computer including a Linux operating system, broadband web browsing and download capability, and gaming capability.

While there are many other ways to make your home entertainment system better, these suggestions will certainly do a lot to move it in the right direction.
